Three days on land, four at sea: our ultimate Disney land-and-sea vacation
The parks give you the thrills and the castle photos. The cruise is the reward. Here's how combining Walt Disney World with the Disney Wish became one of our best family trips ever.
[fusion_dropcap class="fusion-content-tb-dropcap"]T[/fusion_dropcap]o give you a real taste of what a “Land & Sea” Disney vacation feels like, let me share a story from a favorite personal getaway: a recent trip where we combined the high-energy excitement of the parks at Walt Disney World with the blissful relaxation of a cruise on Disney’s beautiful new ship, the Disney Wish.
Here is how the adventure unfolded!
Part 1: The Magic of Walt Disney World (The “Land”)
We started our vacation with a three-day whirlwind at the parks. Staying at a Disney Resort hotel meant we could wake up early, hop on the Skyliner, and beat the crowds with taking advantage of extra magic hours for resort patrons.
Coasters, Parades, and a Galaxy Far, Far Away
At the Magic Kingdom, we got to experience the stunning Disney Starlight nighttime parade. Standing on Main Street, U.S.A., watching the sparkling, illuminated floats pass by with our favorite characters completely aglow, made us feel like kids all over again. The highlight for my daughter was being transformed into a princess at Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique. We next wrapped up our land portion at EPCOT, taking flight on Soarin’ Across America and feeling the high-speed thrill of the newly reimagined Test Track. The absolute highlight for my husband was visiting Disney’s Hollywood Studios. We experience the brand-new mission on Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run featuring Mando and Grogu (which just debuted in May 2026)! Sitting in the cockpit, flying alongside Grogu, and listening to the kids giggle as they took on the “engineer” role to help him was pure, unadulterated magic.
By the end of day three, our feet were tired, our camera rolls were full, and we were ready to trade the pavement for the ocean.
Part 2: Sailing Away on the Disney Destiny (The “Sea”)
The transition from “Land” to “Sea” is always my favorite part. On morning four, we boarded a Disney transfer bus that took us straight to the port in Fort Lauderdale to embark on the Disney Wish. A Disney cruise has all the amenities and feelings of a Disney World vacation, minus the rides. The wait times to meet characters are a fraction of the time and the food is top tier. For those who would like some adult time, there is the Oceaneer Club where children can be dropped off for their own day of fun, while the adults can enjoy some of the finer experiences the ship has to offer.

Stepping Onboard
The moment we walked across the gangway and heard the crew announce over the microphone, “Disney Wish, please welcome the [Your Last Name] Family!” followed by a round of applause, all the theme park exhaustion washed right away.
We headed straight to the pool deck, grabbed a quick lunch, and the kids immediately hopped in line for the AquaMouse, which features a hilarious “Sing a Silly Song” storyline where Mickey and Minnie climb Villain Mountain.
Rotational Dining & Broadway-Quality Shows
On a Disney cruise, your servers travel with you to a different restaurant each night. Our service team was phenomenal; by night two, they already had our favorite drinks waiting for us at the table and knew exactly how our youngest liked their Mickey waffles cut up.
Each night, after an incredible dinner, we headed to the Walt Disney Theatre to watch Broadway-caliber shows. The talent onboard is staggering, and the theater itself felt like a grand, historic palace.
Double the Island Paradise: Castaway Cay & Lookout Cay
Disney has two private island destinations:
Disney Castaway Cay: The classic tropical paradise. We spent the day snorkeling in the lagoon, riding water slides into the ocean at Pelican Plunge, and eating a delicious open-air BBQ buffet right on the beach.
Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point: Disney’s stunning new destination in Eleuthera, Bahamas. The vibrant celebration of Bahamian culture, beautiful pastel architecture, and pristine, pink-sand beaches were absolutely breathtaking.
We finished our cruise with Pirate Night—dressing up in our best pirate gear, dancing on deck with Captain Hook and Jack Sparrow, and watching fireworks light up the dark ocean sky.
Why this is the Ultimate Way to Vacation
When we got home, my family agreed that this was one of our best trips of all time. Doing the parks first gives you all the high-energy thrills, the iconic castle photos, and the busy, active fun. Following it up with a cruise is the ultimate reward—it’s where you get to unpack once, let Disney do the cooking and cleaning, and truly relax as a family.
